Individualized Behavior Plans Tailored to Your Child’s Needs
At Behavioral Stepping Stones, we believe no two children are alike—and their treatment plans shouldn’t be either. Every child we work with receives an Individualized Behavior Plan (IBP) built from a comprehensive assessment and tailored to their specific challenges, strengths, and goals.
Our individualized approach ensures your child receives the right support, at the right intensity, in the right setting. These behavior plans are the foundation of our ABA therapy services and reflect the values of personalization, progress, and family partnership.
What Is an Individualized Behavior Plan?
An Individualized Behavior Plan is a structured, detailed guide that outlines:
- The child’s current developmental and behavioral profile
- Short-term and long-term goals for skill development
- Teaching strategies and prompts
- Data collection methods
- Behavioral reduction strategies
- Parent involvement and support recommendations
Each plan is developed and supervised by a
Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and reviewed regularly for updates and improvements.
How We Build Each Plan
No templates. No shortcuts. Our team follows a thorough and collaborative process for every IBP:
Step 1: Behavioral Assessment
The plan begins with a full behavioral assessment, including observations, caregiver interviews, and standardized tools such as the VB-MAPP or ABLLS-R.
Step 2: Goal Development
We work with families to create goals that matter—functional, meaningful, and achievable. These goals are based on your child’s strengths, deficits, and day-to-day challenges.
Step 3: Strategy Selection
We choose ABA-based methods that align with your child’s learning style. Whether discrete trial training, natural environment teaching, or verbal behavior therapy, every strategy is selected with care.
Step 4: Generalization Planning
Skills are taught in multiple settings with the goal of generalizing across environments. For example, if your child learns to request a toy at the table, we’ll help them practice that skill at school, the park, and home.
Step 5: Data and Progress Tracking
We collect skill acquisition and behavior data daily, then analyze it monthly. Plans are adjusted regularly based on outcomes and progress.
Why Individualization Matters
Generic plans often fail to address what’s most important to a child and their family. By focusing on personal goals and functional outcomes, our individualized plans offer:
- Faster progress
- Greater relevance to daily life
- Improved family involvement
- Better generalization across settings
- Long-term impact on independence and success
Common Goals in an Individualized Plan
- Functional communication (verbal, AAC, or gestures)
- Toilet training and hygiene routines
- Reducing self-injury or aggression
- Academic readiness and focus
- Independent play and social interaction
- Transitioning between activities or environments
- Daily routines and home responsibilities
Your child’s plan will always reflect your family’s values and priorities.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who creates the behavior plan?
A licensed Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) designs each plan after conducting a thorough assessment. The plan is also reviewed with the family before implementation.
How often is the plan updated?
Plans are living documents. They are reviewed monthly and adjusted as your child progresses or new goals emerge.
Is my input considered when setting goals?
Absolutely. Family involvement is key to creating relevant goals and reinforcing success outside of therapy.
What if my child has goals from school or another provider?
We’re happy to collaborate with schools and other professionals to ensure continuity and alignment across all services.
